Heads or Tails with Jean Harrison

After joining a group of women at church in doing an online devotional called "Good Morning Girls", where the women take a passage of Scripture and "S.O.A.P." it (Scripture-Observation-Application-Prayer) Jean found herself thinking through Scripture and it's application to life in her walks with her new puppy, Buddy. Here are some of her musings...

What's In a Name?

Ever since we brought Buddy home from an animal rescue shelter in late July 2013, we have imagined about a hundred names for him.  They are funny names mostly and Ben (my son) and I have had a lot of fun trying to outdo one another.  I believe our first name was Buddy Boo Boo; a spin from the popular (?) TV show.  Some of our favorite names are Snickerdoodle, Woofman, Budzilla,  and so on.  Actually, his legal name is Buddy because we were using that a lot when we first brought him home.
This has prompted me to think about all the names of God in the Bible, particularly the names in the Old Testament.  Each name of God in the Old Testament revealed a certain awesome aspect of His character:

Jehovah Nissi - The Lord My Banner (Protector)
Jehovah Mekoddishkem - The Lord Who Sanctifies You
Jehovah Rohi - The Lord Who Shepherds Us
Jehovah Tsidkenu - The Lord Our Righteousness
Jehovah Shalom - The Lord Is Peace
Jehovah Rapha - The Lord That Heals
Jehovah Jireh - The Lord Who Provides

These are only a few of the names of God.  Aspects of God's character probably out number the stars in His universe.  I am so blessed to have these names of God at hand also.  But I know Him best as Father and Abba.
Proverbs 18:10 "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
