Heads or Tails with Jean Harrison

After joining a group of women at church in doing an online devotional called "Good Morning Girls", where the women take a passage of Scripture and "S.O.A.P." it (Scripture-Observation-Application-Prayer) Jean found herself thinking through Scripture and it's application to life in her walks with her new puppy, Buddy. Here are some of her musings...

My Life Be Like...

Jean Harrison

Every day I have a choice of faith.  Do I worry excessively about a certain trouble, or do I pray about it and hand it over to my Lord?  When I try to fix a trouble, I end up spinning my wheels and expending a lot of energy.  God allowed this and He has a plan.  If I put myself between Him and a trouble, I'm the one that gets beat up pretty badly.  Yes, many a time I've come away bruised and bleeding.
This topic of worry has me remembering a difficult journey that began a few years ago and lasted a long period of time.  A friend of ours received a very serious medical diagnosis.  It was shocking and very upsetting.  A lot of us were reeling with the news.  Many had decided to fast and pray.
I asked the Lord what He wanted me to do in addition to praying fervently.  He didn't answer right away so I kept offering that same prayer question. One day He answered and said, "give up worry".  I received it like a physical blow.  Was I a chronic worrier?  I don't think so.  But the spirit of worry had been modeled too much and too often by my parents.  It was way too familiar to fall into that negative, faithless way of thinking.  This was a gauntlet thrown down by my Father.  Do you care enough about this person to lay down this sin of worry and trust Me more fully?  Yes, I did care that much. Every time I was tempted to be anxious and worry about a situation, that Fatherly challenge came to mind.  The sin of worry was being whittled down effectively.
Am I perfectly walking away from the sin of worry?  I will answer this way, my relationship with Jesus is more intimate and more trusting than ever before.  To God be the Glory!  God doesn't mess around with the sins of a follower of Christ.  We face the consequences over and over until we wake up, acknowledge, and confess that sin.  Our Lord has custom-made plans for each one of us to mold us in the image of His Son.  Are these plans of His easy?  No way !  But the end result is absolutely priceless.
We serve a mighty God.  There is no one like Him.
