Security After Sirens ministers to children who have been touched by tragedy
The mission of Security After Sirens is to minister to children in the Harrisburg area by providing stuffed animals to ambulance, fire, and police departments for distribution to children found at scenes of emergency. Stuffed animals are also provided to the Keystone Correctional Facility for the men to share with their families.
Anyone may make donations of new and gently used stuffed animals by placing them in the tub under the table by the coat rack. The animals are sorted, laundered and tagged.
Over 3,500 animals have been donated and distributed to children who need a buddy to make them feel safe. Distribution points have included the Steelton Fire Department, Rutherford Fire Department, Hampden Township Fire Department, Susquehanna Township, City of Harrisburg, Methodist Children's Home, the Keystone Men's Correctional Facility, Bridge of Hope (homeless women), Baptist Convention, other churches, a daycare center, and even some bears for the Hershey Bear Toss.
To an adult, a stuffed animal is just a toy. To a child, it's an important piece of self-esteem and security.
