Weekday Musings with Pastor Brian

Whoa... Two posts in one week.  What's going on?  Actually, I want to share an excellent article I received from Thom Rainer, President of Lifeway, prior pastor, and seminary professor, on: Nine Concerns about Church Members Who Withhold Their Financial Gifts.  If you're a pastor, you've experienced it.

Weekday Musings with Pastor Brian - October 28th

On Monday, John and I got to attend a terrific 9 Marks Conference in Springfield, VA - Inerrancy and the Church with John MacArthur and Mark Dever.  What a wonderful affirmation of and challenge to teach the Scriptures we hold dear. It was so encouraging to be in a room full of men and women that have such a high regard for God’s Word.  They spent a lot of time discussing the critical importance of expository preaching/teaching - the systematic teaching/explanation of Scripture.  That is something that is sadly lacking in far too many churches today.

There were a number of notable comments, but some that come to mind are: “The character of the church is to reflect the character of God” - Dever.  An excellent point: “There is only ONE correct interpretation of Scripture” - MacArthur.  “What God said is equal to who God is.” - MacArthur.  And in one of their Q & A’s this statement was made: “There is no such thing as a logical atheist.” They believe, “Nobody x Nothing = Everything”.

Regarding an upcoming message, I need to clarify something… Many of you have expressed to me that you are praying for an upcoming sermon I am preparing on the issue of homosexuality.  I really and truly appreciate the prayers!  That said, it will not be taught this Sunday, but on November 9th.  My tentative title is: Homosexuality, the Word of God, and the Church.  I will be putting it together this week.

This coming Sunday I will be teaching on, The Work of the Spirit in a Hostile World, which will cover John 16:1-11.  Jesus spent quite a bit of his final address to His apostles warning those who love Him of persecution.  We will be coving another facet of it.

I understand several of our ladies will be headed off to Word of Life this weekend for the Women’s conference.  I am praying you have a wonderful and safe trip.  Enjoy!  I am looking forward to the annual Men’s Conference coming up this spring.  We will get the word out, men, when we get details.

Don’t forget… Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings Time.  We “fall back” an hour.  As we saw in the funny video… Don’t be left behind. LOL!  For those of you who forget and come to Sunday School for the first time, we do have a class for you!  :-)

Speaking of classes, we have several that have just gotten started on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  I don’t believe it is too late to check them out.  Great teachers, and great opportunities to connect with God and others.  Check with Pastor John, Debby, or me if you have questions.

Finally, be in prayer for our Transformational Church Focus Teams.  We are in the home stretch of putting together our initial strategy for 2015.  We meet this Wednesday (29th) and again on Nov. 12th to pull all of our work together into a comprehensive plan/strategy.  We will then present it to the Leadership Team in December, and will roll out a special meeting to share it with the church, most likely in January.  Our plan is to begin on the first of February.  I/we will keep you posted.

Love you all!  Have a most wonderful week in Christ.  Stay in the Word, make the time to talk to your God in prayer, and remember that He loves you so very much that He sent His only Son to die, so that you might live.  (John 3:16; Romans 5:8)

So blessed to be your pastor, Brian
