What To Do With the “C and E’s”
Every year we hear comments about the ubiquitous “C and E Christians”; a.k.a. “Submarine Christians”, and I’m sure a host of other names. You know… the folks that often come for Christmas and Easter, but seldom if ever come any other time of the year. Fact is, we “regulars” can get quite judgmental about them. If that happens to be our own heart and attitude, shame on us.
Do you have a friend or loved one who doesn’t know Jesus? Have you been praying for them, that they could hear the Gospel? Well, Sunday is Easter. It’s interesting that Easter is culturally still a day when many find their way to church. Not all are sure why… and this trend is certainly rapidly diminishing, but… Maybe, just maybe that “C and E” type just happens to be in a biblical church, maybe even our own, because God is answering someone’s prayer. Perhaps God is still doing a work on their souls, and he is adding another part towards His finished masterpiece of salvation. I’m thinking it would be good to partner in prayer for those we don’t know.
Did you know that Easter is also a time when many who know little or nothing about Christ and what Easter is all about often find themselves with questions about our faith, but are uncertain as to who can give them the best answers? If you’ve checked the TV listings, you may have noticed that especially this time of the year there are a number of specials and movies with Biblical themes… or perhaps better… titles (there was an article in Sunday’s Living section of the Patriot News listing some of them). They’re trying to scratch and itch, but should they turn there? What about a local bookstore (and I’m not talking about Lifeway here)? Fact is, there is a lot of media and literary garbage out there that purports to know about Jesus and Christianity; even a mature believer should be discerning. Soooo… where could they turn for answers?
What about you? Yes, the “you” that is reading this musing. Do you really love Jesus? Are you walking the talk? Do you really care about people and their eternal destiny? Is it just possible that someone you know is asking questions or expressing some confusion about Christianity? I realize this is a crazy thought, but they might just welcome a conversation about the biblical Jesus, and perhaps even an invitation to go to church with you. They’ve got questions, you can invite them to see for themselves. Be bold and give it a shot. Besides, what have you got to lose… but your loved one, friend or neighbor facing eternal judgment and torment? And what a blessing it is when God chooses to use us to share His love!
Assuming we don’t get a wild and crazy April snow (LOL!), Easter is on for Sunday. We are looking at potentially five baptisms. Wow! What a day to be baptized. We can also look forward to our Children's Ministry doing a special.
Saturday, April 11th, Joe Stiles has a big work-day scheduled. All are welcome to help out. Daniel and I will also be serving up a veritable breakfast buffet of culinary delights at 7:30 (how’s that for a promo? Haha) before work gets started. Oh… and by way of a “public service announcement”, don’t forget that 4/15 is Tax Day… For some odd reason Uncle Sam gets miffed if we don’t get that little bundle of fun taken care of. I know… what’s with that???
I love and pray for you! Have a wonderful Easter as we worship and celebrate our Risen Savior and Lord.
