Covenant

Our church covenant is a simple statement of what we understand to be the essence of membership in a local church. Membership involves a mutual commitment among Christians to serve as a family of God’s people in a particular church body according to the vision laid out in Scripture. We recognize we will never live out these covenant commitments perfectly. Nonetheless, they represent the biblical values and ideals by which we seek to live as a church, God being our helper.

East Shore Baptist Church Membership Covenant

Having been brought by Divine Grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and having been baptized upon our profession of faith, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, relying on His aid, solemnly and joyfully commit as His followers to the following:

  • Believe in the Word of God alone as inspired, infallible, and inerrant, and its doctrines as expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

  • Serve in the church according to the Scriptures, as well as these documents as adopted by our church body: The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and the East Shore Baptist Church Constitution and By-Laws; and will not teach or promote doctrines, beliefs, or practices contrary to the Scriptures or these documents at or through the ministry of East Shore Baptist Church.

  • Seek to be a source of unity in the church and God’s Kingdom. We purpose to never be a source of gossip or dissension, but to pray for unity and peace.

  • Purpose to not make this church about our preferences or desires. We are in this church to serve Jesus Christ and to serve others.

  • Purpose to pray for the pastors and leaders, as well as for the spiritual and numerical growth and health of this church.

  • Seek to lead our families to be good members of this church. It is our purpose and desire that we worship together in our church, pray together for our church, and serve together in our church.

  • Care for and watch over one another and, when necessary, admonish one another in the love and fear of Christ.

  • Strive to rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep, and bear one another’s burdens.

  • Pledge to faithfully attend church gatherings and membership meetings and support our church with our time, talents, abilities, and financial resources.

  • Seek, by the Holy Spirit’s enabling, to live carefully in the world, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, and striving to glorify God in all that we say and do.

  • Commit to fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples and by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us.

  • View this membership as a gift and privilege. We pray that we will never take membership for granted, but see it as a gift and an opportunity to serve others and to be a part of something so much greater than one person or member.

  • Should we move from this place, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
