As we approach Christmas, we don’t like to think about hardship and suffering. But the reality of suffering often comes whether we like it or not. That is why we will be encouraged by considering Christ’s perfect suffering in Hebrews 5:1-10. Because He is perfect and He suffered for us, we can have confidence that our present suffering has a purpose and that one day our suffering will end.

We love to celebrate the accomplishments of great men and women, whether they be athletes, political leaders, faithful followers of Christ, or the people who made a profound difference in our personal lives. But in Hebrews 3:1-6, we’ll discover that Jesus is better than our heroes. As great as their accomplishments are, they cannot compare to what He has done for us.
Who are my heroes? What has Jesus done that makes Him better than any other hero?

I have two brothers. They’re fun to be around and I love them very much. If you have brothers, I hope you feel the same. But whether you have a brother or not, we’ll discover that Jesus is a better brother in Hebrews 2:10-18. As great as our earthly brothers may be, Jesus suffered for us, died to defeat death’s hold on us, and is available to help us every day.

The Christian life is hard. Sometimes we may be tempted to give up. That’s why we’ll be in Hebrews 2:1-9 talking about why Jesus is better than giving up. The salvation He offers is better than any other alternative and He is worth following.

In this sermon, we’ll be in Hebrews 1:3-14. This passage is about how Jesus is better than angels, but we’re going to expand our focus and recognize that Jesus is better than any “supernatural” thing that exists or that we can imagine. Angels, demons, or even something made-up like vampires… Jesus is Better than the “Supernatural.”
